2007 Topps Baseball

The 2007 Topps Series One baseball set is one of the better "regular issue" Topps sets in the last few years in my opinion. The black borders do seem to make it tougher to find MINT cards. I've only opened a few packs but many of the cards have corner problems.

One of the early big hits in 2007 Topps was card #40 Derek Jeter, which collectors soon discovered pictured President George Bush in the stadium and Mickey Mantle in the Yankees dugout! The Mick and The President were obviously photoshopped into the picture, considering Mickey Mantle died in 1995. I've included a scan of the Derek Jeter card below.

The Derek Jeter card when it first came out was selling for only $10-$15 but then it hit national news, and they started selling for close to $300.00. I think the hype has died down a bit now and you can find them much cheaper.

Now, to add another interesting twist on the Jeter card (and others in the set also), Topps has made several error/variation cards in the 2007 set. Some of the cards can be found with white or red lettering on the back (the players name).

Other than that, there are some cool insert sets, and there are a few other variations in 2007 Topps baseball as well, such as the "Generation Now" insert set. The cards of Ethier, Morneau, Wright, Howard, Wang, and Weaver can all be found with or without their name printed on the front.

The checklists can be found with different colored check boxes on the fronts, I've heard of them being found with red, blue, or white boxes.

Other cards in the base set have photo variations, such as #15 Miller, #20 Young, #135 Tulowitzki, #271 Young, and #292 Fields.

I think each base card has four "printing plate" parallel cards, each numbered 1/1. There are also several other parallels to the base set, such as Gold, Copper, and Platinum versions of each card.

Series 2 Was Released In Early June of 2007

Series 2 of Topps 2007 Baseball featured a few new insert sets, such as "The Streak" set celebrating Joe Dimaggio's hitting streak, Opening Day set, "Trading Places", "Stars" and "Hit Parade".

Supposedly, the distribution of these cards is great, with most collectors not getting many duplicates.
